Sheryl worked in the field of medical microbiology as a technologist at the U of A hospital for 13 years.  During that time she worked with microbes like Clostridium difficle which is becoming more of a concern in both agriculture and in human health.  She took a year of journalism school at Grant MacEwan college, spent a number of years doing a variety of jobs at Mtn. Equip co-op and currently works out of her home as a registered massage therapist.  In the last 5 years she has spent thousands of hours researching concerns around pesticides in her work with Pesticide Free Edmonton.  This group now has contacts with groups across Canada, with scientists and with groups outside of Canada. Pesticide Free Edmonton is a grassroots volunteer group that began 25 years ago created by a number of professionals concerned about the urban use of pesticides for dandelions that can harm human health and are done for aesthetic reasons.  In her research she became aware of how pesticides are not properly assessed or regulated and that there are safer alternatives we could all be encouraging.  She became aware that many health concerns have taken a dramatic upturn and that this is likely a result of the huge increases we see in their use.  In recent years she has been giving presentations to groups on these concerns and encourages others to make changes in their lives to protect themselves and those they care about.  As well, her group also tries to encourage changes in policy at the local and provincial level.

In this video Sheryl shares her insights on:

  • The health dangers of glyphosate, 2-4-D, neonicotinoids
  • Why we have lost 75% of insect species world wide and how it affects food security
  • Roundup in our rain and rivers
  • Pitfalls with the regulation and approval of the 7000+ pesticides registered for use in Canada
  • What we can all do to help create a pesticide free world!
  • And so much more!
